Who we are and what we do

The BC Ferret Rescue Society Story:

Started in Nov 2015, under the original name of VI FERT with a simple mission and simple goals: provide care and find homes for surrendered ferrets as well as offer education and support services to the public regarding the treatment and care of ferrets.

Originally an island wide network of volunteers who love ferrets we started taking on and coordinating with members in the lower mainland, who currently lack their own ferret rescue group. On January 1, 2026 VI FERT officially became The BC Ferret Rescue Society as a means coordinate across the entire Province.

The BC Ferret Rescue Society's main focus is to take care of ferrets, providing them with a safe place to live, love, attention, proper nutrition and veterinary care. Our organisation is non-judgemental when it comes to ferret surrenders as we completely understand that life is full of difficult choices.

Whenever possible, ferrets are adopted out to caring, educated, FUREVER homes. The adoption process involves an application, interview and home inspection.  The home inspection can be done virtually and is intended to help point out areas where you may encounter issues with ferrets.

Adoption fees vary depending on age, special needs and number of ferrets adopted.

If you wish to become a foster home, volunteer with fundraising, or support the BC Ferret Rescue Society in any way, please send us a message. We would love to have you join our team!
